Differentiation 101: A Peer Consultation Group talks about differentiation from six different theoretical perspectives; as more professionals practice couples therapy, it’s imperative to have an understanding of differentiation so that couples can have a broader arrangement of options for how they want to make decisions and respect and honor the humanity of the other person while navigating differences. Differentiation is the capacity to practice interdependence, or the ability to hold onto oneself and be present for another person at the same time in a relationship, is an important skill to develop for couples therapists and people in relationships.
