Mission Statement

The New England Association for Family and Systemic Therapy is the professional home for family and systemic therapists in Massachusetts and surrounding states. We are a membership organization of professionals dedicated to the advancement of family and systemic therapy through advocacy, networking, and education.

Advocacy: NEAFAST seeks to communicate the effectiveness and quality of family and systemic therapy to lawmakers, insurance boards, employing agencies, and the public. The New England Journal for Relational and Systemic Practice (NEJRSP) and the State of Therapy Conference are two platforms for advocating for family and systemic therapy.

Networking: NEAFAST seeks to collaborate with other professionals who provide family and systemic therapy. We have created a region-wide referral system of therapists who work with various family arrangements and presenting problems. We highlight and celebrate the accomplishments of our members through our social media outlets, including Facebook and Youtube.

Education: NEAFAST seeks to improve the quality of therapeutic training through our oversight of high-quality, relevant systems-informed learning experiences. NEAFAST is a clearinghouse for continuing education opportunities that focus on couples and family therapy, both to meet state requirements for licensed marriage and family therapists in Massachusetts, and to train other therapists in family and systemic therapy. Our website houses ongoing CE events and basic standards for continuing education in family and systemic therapy. We also support the work of the NEAFAST Consortium, a group of organizations in Massachusetts which provide continuing education explicitly in systems-informed content.
