Organizational Development: Building Better Organizations and Healthier Lives within Them
Monday, August 15, 2022, 8:00 AM to Friday, August 19, 2022, 5:00 PM EDT
Category: CE Events: Adult Individuals

Organization Development (OD) has always been about helping organizations become stronger and more effective. The promise of OD has never been more relevant than during the continuing challenges from the pandemic and the social unrest of the past two years. The mental health of workers and the so-called “Great Resignation” are but two of the issues with which many employers are grappling. This workshop will help participants learn to apply the principles of organization development to bring about positive change in their organizations, communities, and themselves. It also will explore the concept of “Use of Self” as a means of personal and professional growth. The seminar week will benefit both those with an OD background and newcomers to the practice.“Organization development” was named in the late 1950s, described then as “planned change,” a system-wide process based on social-scientific methods that was managed from the top of the organization. Today, OD has evolved to include ideas that better fit the postmodern world, including social-constructionism, emergence, and self-organizing systems. Effective change leaders have learned that they must address both so-called “objective reality” as well as the diverse perceptions people have of it.Originally, organization development was primarily the domain of consultants. Today, that is no longer the case. Now, OD practitioners include anyone interested in bringing about change. That includes leaders in business and the nonprofit sector, HR practitioners, community organizers, educators and students, physicians, and anyone interested in understanding how change occurs. Everyone is welcome to be part of this workshop’s learning community.
