Friday, May 06, 2022, 8:00 AM to Friday, July 01, 2022, 5:00 PM EDT
Category: Consortium Events

The current fast paced, productivity focused environment in human services presents many challenges to workers. This has been especially exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. Many workers report feeling disconnected from their skills and at risk of burning out. Narrative therapy offers a framework for bringing your values and commitments into the helping relationship in ways that are collaborative, effective, and energizing. This course will assist participants exploring more fully the complex and practice enriching ideas of narrative therapy. Each class will include discussion of a key concept and will allow participants to practice the techniques that help to implement that idea in their work. We will evaluate together how ideas of collaborative stance, scaffolding, witnessing, and externalization fit with each worker’s current practice and how the use of these practices can build on their knowledge and provide support for their work. We will utilize readings, class discussion and many experiential exercises to make this an interactive and revitalizing class. In addition to enhancing clinical practice, this course will assist clinicians in providing help in ways that are attuned to the larger socio-cultural-political discourses that constrain people from living their preferred lives.
