Gender expectations , the ways that a person interacts with societal norms about how to perform according to one’s biological anatomy, can create an enormous amount of ri gidity and anxiety for children and families. This workshop will explore ho w family process can create a wide (or narrow) spectrum for acceptance and performativity of gender. Participants will explore how the division of lab or and decision-making power between parents, the mutual (or imbalanced) in volvement of mothers and fathers, and the ways that parents educate their c hildren and teens about sex contribute to the ways that family members expe rience anxiety around gender performativity.
