First Friday Training: Couples Therapy: Gay, Straight, Trans, and Poly Couples
Friday, June 07, 2019, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM EDT
Category: Consortium Events
Presented by Stephen Duclos and Joseph Winn
Straight couples in 2019 offer difficulties and challenges to a couples therapist that gay, trans, and poly relationships do not, particularly around sexuality and privilege.
In this three hour presentation of the latest social science, we will be offering an interesting lens from which to view relationship and sexuality, particularly around how the sex recession with upwardly mobile white skinned straight couples has led to socio-cultural problems that have been completely bypassed by their gay, trans, and poly counterparts.
Alternating perspectives, Stephen and Joseph will be describing clinical problems from a monogamy/non-monogamy perspective that can help all couples choose the kind of optimal relational and sexual life that suits them best. Looking at couples across the life span, developmental aspects of decision making will be part of our discussion. Case studies and role plays will help illuminate best clinical practice.
This is the first in a year long monthly series of relational and systems based colloquiums on family and couples therapy sponsored by the South Shore Family Health Collaborative in Quincy, Massachusetts. The cost of the session is $120. Continuing education credits may be offered to Family Therapists, Social Workers, Mental Health Counselors, Sex Therapists, and Psychologists.
