Next Steps on the Journey: Moving Toward Antiracism integrates the self-reflective work from Moving Toward Antiracism: A Yearlong Guided Reflection through Layla Saad’s Me and White Supremacy with the relational and clinical work that we do as family therapists. Using the framework adapted from Constructive White Conversations participants will gather to reflect on their own anti-racism journey and how to bring anti-racism work into their professional work as psychotherapists. The group adheres to three common values:

  1. We are not experts. We will continue to work on ourselves and notice how white supremacy shows up in our lives.
  2. We are non-hierarchical. Roles in the meeting will rotate including host, person to share personal story and deciding on topics for each session.
  3. We aim to be more anti-racist in the therapy space. By sharing how we work through cases and experiences, we learn and grow.

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be better able to:

  1. Describe three ways racism shows up in their thoughts, feelings and behaviors
  2. Identify three issues of racism in therapy sessions
  3. Evaluate three tools for assessment and treatment that may be utilized in their practice

Schedule (all times in ET):

12-12:15pm: Introductions to the group and establishing goals and intentions for the meeting
12:15-12:30pm: Identify ways that white supremacy impacts the development of your personal and professional career

12:45-1pm: Identify specific component of white identity development
